Hi everyone,
- Next Troop Meeting – Monday, February 10 – Gym - 7:00-9:00 PM
- Scout Mass - Sunday, February 9 - 9:30 AM
Scouts across the United States will observe Scout Sunday this weekend. Please join your fellow Scouts and Leaders at the 9:30 am Mass this coming Sunday. As part of the Mass the Cub Scouts will be receiving their Parvuli Dei and Light of Christ awards.
This is a Class A uniform and school pants event! Every Scout who attends will receive the patch seen below.
- Sock Drive Wrap-Up
Thanks to everyone who helped us run a very successful sock and underwear drive a couple of weekends ago. We had good participation with covering the Masses. We also had four Scouts (Jack, Nathaniel, Brian, and Sebastian) help with delivering everything to Cornerstone in Uptown. In all we collected 2798 articles of clothing and over $2400 in donations.
Special thanks to Assistant Scoutmaster Mike Reese for organizing the Drive and coordinating with the parish office, school, religious education, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
- Eagle Court of Honor
We held a very successful Eagle Court of Honor for Chris Z. The SPLs Tom and Matthew were excellent MCs and Jimmy led the color guard (Aiden, Avery, Jack, and Sebastian) in the opening and closing ceremonies. Bishop-Elect Siemianowski offered an opening prayer. Thanks also to Mrs. Albanito for organizing the reception afterwards.
- 10-Mile Hike – Saturday, February 15 - Palos Woods
Troop 965 will continue working on the Hiking Merit Badge and Fort Dearborn Trails Medal with a 10-mile hike on Saturday, February 15th. We will hike on the Palos Trail System near Willow Springs, Illinois. The hike will begin at the I&M Trail parking lot on Willow Springs Road north of Archer Ave and end at Teason’s Woods. Using orienteering skills, the Scouts will direct us to specific sites including ridges formed by glaciers, the original site of BSA Camp Kiwanis, sloughs, and the Swallow Cliff slides.
Each hiker must carry their own day pack, bring at least 3 liters of water to drink along the trail, and wear hiking boots. You will not be allowed to hike in gym shoes. Hikers should also bring a sack lunch, snacks for the trail, rain gear, compass, and dress in the appropriate layers.
Parents are welcome to join us on the hike.
We will meet at the St. Juliana Parish Office, 7200 N. Osceola Ave, at 9:00AM on February 15th and return before 5:00PM.
The permission slip is in the Resource Center and should be turned in at the February 10 Troop meeting.
- Patrol Leader Council – Monday, February 17 – 7:00 PM
The next PLC meeting has been rescheduled to February 17 – prior to the regular Troop meeting.
- Bishop John Siemianowski – Celebration Mass – Saturday, March 1 – 5:00 PM
The Troop is honored to have been asked to provide a color guard for Fr. John’s first Mass at St. Juliana as a new bishop. We are looking for four Scouts who would like to serve in the color guard. Volunteers will need to wear their Class A uniforms and green khaki pants. If you are interested in doing this, please let me know as soon as possible.
