Hi everyone,
- Next Troop Meeting – June 24 – Ahearn Center (Gym) – 6:30 start! Bike Hike! Done by 9:00
We are going for a bike hike! We will meet at the St. Juliana Gym at 6:30 pm to mount up and ride on the North Branch Trail in the Forest Preserves. We will be back at St. Juliana by 9:00 or a little earlier.
Everyone going on the ride needs a bike helmet and a water bottle - Scouts and adults - no exceptions.
Class B uniforms - please!
- New Troop T-Shirt
The new shirts are here and will be debuted at the Car Wash on July 13. We are collecting the $15 fee for the shirt now. Please plan to pay for your shirt before the Car Wash. We would like every Scout and leader to have one, so if cost is an issue, please have a confidential conversation with Pete Stolarski. We can discretely help anyone who is cash strapped.
- Orienteering Hike – Saturday, June 22
Given the very warm weather we are experiencing this week, Mr. Gulliford has worked out an alternate plan for the 10-mile hike at Palos. Here’s the new plan:
- Orienteering Course at the nearby St. Paul Woods Forest Preserve
- Early start – 7:00 AM start at St. Juliana with a short hike from St. Juliana to St. Paul Woods
- Orienteering Course at St. Paul Woods
- Hike back to St. Juliana
- Maximum hiking distance of 6 miles
- Off the trail and back at St. Juliana by 11:00 AM - before the heat sets in
Orienteering is a fun and interesting way to find checkpoints using a map and compass. It helps build skills in reading a map and navigating with a map and compass.
If you are going on the outing, you will need the following:
- sun protection – sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc.
- minimum of 3 liters of water
- personal snacks – lunch will be provided
- hiking shoes or boots – No gym shoes!
- Wear comfortable clothing for the weather – no need for a Scout uniform.
Please let me or Mr. Gulliford know if you have any questions.
- Health Forms are Due by June 24
Please make sure to get your Scout’s BSA health form submitted by June 24. Scouts and leaders who haven’t submitted a form by then will not be allowed to attend meetings and activities. Nobody wants that, but BSA rules are very clear on this. This rule is for the protection of Scouts and adults when we are out on activities. All the information you need can be found on the Health Forms page.
- Summer Camp Prep Meeting – Monday, July 8 – 7:00 pm – Ahearn Center
There will be a final organizational meeting for all Scouts, leaders, and parents going to Owasippe. We will use the meeting to go over packing lists and ensure that all forms are in order. Please plan to attend if you are going to camp!
- Car Wash – Saturday, July 13 – MARK YOUR CALENDAR!
We need all Scouts and leaders on deck for the Car Wash. We are also requesting help from parents. This is our main fundraiser, and it also serves as a unifying activity that has everyone working together as a unit.
Stay cool!
Mr. Pelrine
