Hi everyone,
- Next Troop Meeting – June 10 – Ahearn Center (Gym) – 7:00-9:00
We will be re-stocking our first aid kits. Bring your personal first aid kit to the meeting and we will help you get it up to date.
We’re in summer mode, so it’s Class B uniforms!
- New Troop T-Shirt
The new shirts have shipped and should arrive in a couple of days. Please plan to pay for your shirt before the Car Wash on July 13. The cost of the shirt is $15.00. We would like every Scout and leader to have one, so if cost is an issue, please have a confidential conversation with Pete Stolarski. We can help anyone who is cash strapped.
- Parish Picnic Thank You
Thank you to everyone who helped at the Parish Picnic last Sunday. We had perfect weather, good food, and great company.
- Palos Woods Hike – Saturday, June 22
Troop 965 will begin working on the Hiking Merit Badge and Fort Dearborn Trails Medal with a 10-mile hike on Saturday, June 22nd. We will hike on the Palos Trail System and the I&M Canal Trail near Willow Springs, Illinois. The hike will begin at Pulaski Woods, and end at the I&M Trail parking lot at Willow Springs Road north of Archer Ave. Using orienteering skills, the Scouts will direct us to specific sites including the site of the first Argonne National Lab, buried nuclear waste, Maple Lake, a haunted cemetery, and the Historic I&M Canal.
Each hiker must carry their own day pack, bring at least 3 liters of water to drink along the trail, and wear hiking boots or hiking shoes. No gym shoes! Hikers should also bring snacks for the trail, rain gear, compass, and dress appropriately for the weather. A warm trail meal will be served mid-hike.
Parents are welcome to join us on the hike.
The cost for the hike is $10 per hiker. Payment and the signed permission slip are due at the June 17th Troop meeting so that we have a count for food and drivers.
We will meet at the St. Juliana School parking lot at 8:30 AM and return before 5:00PM.
- Health Forms are Due by June 24
Please make sure to get your Scout’s BSA health form submitted by June 24. Scouts and leaders who haven’t submitted a form by then will not be allowed to attend meetings and activities. Nobody wants that, but BSA rules are very clear on this. This rule is for the protection of Scouts and adults when we are out on activities. All the information you need can be found on the Health Forms page.
- Summer Camp Prep Meeting – Monday, July 8 – 7:00 pm – Ahearn Center
There will be a final organizational meeting for all Scouts, leaders, and parents going to Owasippe. We will use the meeting to go over packing lists and ensure that all forms are in order. Please plan to attend if you are going to camp!
- Car Wash – Saturday, July 13 – MARK YOUR CALENDAR!
We need all Scouts and leaders on deck for the Car Wash. We are also requesting help from parents. This is our main fundraiser, and it also serves as a unifying activity that has everyone working together as a unit.
Enjoy the beginning of summer. See you soon!
Mr. Pelrine
