- Family Life Merit Badge – November 25
Mrs. Pelrine will be at the November 25 Troop meeting to work on Family Life merit badge with anyone who is interested. If you have started the badge, please bring any work you need to review with her.
- District First Aid Meet – Saturday, December 7
The Troop is training to participate in the Tri-Star District First Aid Meet on Saturday, December 7. We are still waiting for specific details about the time and location. A group of Scouts are training with Mr. Mandelin and other leaders. Training will continue at the next few Troop meetings. It’s not too late to join the First Aid crew.
- 2025 Summer Adventure – Boundary Waters Canoe Trip
Troop 965 is planning a Wilderness Canoe Trip in late July/early August 2025. The trip will be a five-day canoe trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) in northern Minnesota.
The Boundary Waters is a federally designated wilderness of more than 1 million acres within the Superior National Forest. The wilderness runs for 150 miles along the US-Canadian border. On the other side of the border lies Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada – another 1.8 million acres of pristine wilderness. The two combined parks form a core of well over two and a half million acres of wilderness canoeing and camping. The American side alone has more than 1100 lakes and hundreds of miles of streams. Nearly all the canoe country wilderness is accessible only by canoe or on foot. There are no roads and few traces of human influence. Access to the wilderness is controlled by designated entry points and access permits.
To be eligible for this trip Scouts will need to meet specific preparation and training requirements, including:
- Minimum rank of Second Class; preferably First Class
- Swimming merit badge
- Canoeing merit badge
- Participation in specific training outings in the spring and early summer
The size of the crew in the Boundary Waters is limited to a maximum of nine people.
The trip will be held in late July/early August and the cost will be approximately $500-$550 per person. As a reference - the final cost of the 2022 trip was $407 per person.
The leaders on the trip have been or will be trained in Wilderness First Aid, Hazardous Weather Training, and CPR/AED.
Scouts, leaders, and parents who are interested in the trip should talk to Mr. Pelrine about their eligibility and any other details regarding the Boundary Waters. Hopefully, the trip will fill; sign-ups will open in January 2025. A deposit of $200 will hold your space on the trip.
Experiencing the Boundary Waters is a life-changing experience for many. It is an opportunity to test your outdoor skills in a beautiful wilderness setting.

- Scout Photos and Website Gallery
The Troop has a nice photo gallery of our activities on our website. If you have checked it out, you will notice that we have a section of the gallery reserved for photos taken by our Scouts.
I want to encourage Scouts to take pictures on our outings and to submit them for posting on the Troop website. You just need to send them to me (and copy a parent!) and I will pass them along to our webmaster. A few Scouts already have pictures on the Troop website.
- Congratulations to Steven Pelrine!
Troop Webmaster and alum Steve Pelrine and his wife Grace welcomed Abigail Marie into the world on Friday, November 8.
