Hi everyone,
- Next Troop Meeting – September 23 - Ahearn Center (Gym) – 7:00-9:00 pm
We had a very productive meeting this week. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to clean the kitchen equipment and get it ready for the October camping weekend. Next up is making sure the tents are ready to go on the next outing. Part of our meeting on Monday will be making sack lunches for Uncle Pete’s Ministry.
Class A uniforms for everyone! Thank you!
- Camping Wrap-Up
We had a great weekend at White Pines. On Saturday morning we hiked up and down the bluffs and around Pine Creek for 3 ½ miles. In the afternoon, some Scouts worked on advancement and others explored the creek that ran behind our campsite. The weather was beautiful and unseasonably warm.
Take a Hike Challenge
The Conservation Foundation (formerly Edward-Elmhurst's) “Take a Hike” Challenge - Registration is now open! Program runs from September 2 through October 28, 2024.
All hikes you do either with the Troop or on your own during the time period for the program count for this challenge! This is the easiest challenge ever!!! Hike anywhere for any distance and record it on your Tracker for the week. Hike six times during the 8 weeks, and you earn the hiking reward! First timers get a walking stick. Everyone gets a hiking medallion or a pin.
See theconservationfoundation.com/take-a-hike/ for information and links to online registration (required) and to the Tracker hiking log form. It is best to register right away. You should get a confirmation email letting you know that you registered successfully. You also will be getting weekly emails about the program. If you do not get these, register again or call Knoch Knolls and ask what to do. Registration closes September 30.
Each participant needs to have their own 2024 Hiking Tracker hiking log form. This is what is needed to be filled in and submitted in order to get your hiking rewards! I did not see it on the website yet. I will have print copies when it becomes available.
Mr. Reese will schedule a hike at Knoch Knolls in Naperville in late October/early November to pick up our hiking sticks and the medallion or pin. If you earn these but cannot join this hike, give me your paperwork and I can pick it up for you.
We have had more participants join each year we have done this challenge. Let’s have everyone do this in 2024! Go online and register today.
Mike Reese
PS - Please let me know if you registered for this challenge

- Mystery Question – Troop Website
The Troop 965 website provides links to organizations and resources outside the Troop. How many of these links can be found on our website?
If you think you know the answer, write it on the back of an REI gift card and leave it in my mailbox. Seriously, send your answer to me via email AND be sure to copy a parent. A correct answer that isn’t copied to a parent is disqualified. The first correct answer wins a fabulous prize and the eternal admiration of your brother Scouts.
See you Monday!
Mr. Pelrine
