- Conservation Project – Saturday, October 5 – Meet at 8:30 AM
From Brian Pritt: There is an opportunity for a conservation service project – which is needed to advance in rank and to complete merit badges - at Skokie Lagoons. We will be cutting down invasive buckthorn trees. The project starts at 9 A.M. and goes until about noon. We will meet at 8:30 AM in front of the Parish Center to load up. Wear grubby clothes – no uniform necessary. Bring a pair of gloves to protect your hands. Permission slip is on the Troop website.
- Hiking at Palos Forest Preserve – Sunday, October 6 - Meet at 7:30 AM
Troop 965 will begin working on the Hiking Merit Badge and Fort Dearborn Trails Medal with a 10-mile hike on Sunday, October 6th. We will hike on the Palos Trail System and the I&M Canal Trail near Willow Springs, Illinois. The hike will begin at Pulaski Woods, and end at the I&M Trail parking lot at Willow Springs Road north of Archer Ave. Using orienteering skills, the Scouts will direct us to specific sites including; the site of the first Argonne National Lab, buried nuclear waste, Maple Lake, a haunted cemetery and the Historic I&M Canal.
Each hiker must carry their own day pack, bring at least 3 liters of water to drink along the trail, and wear hiking boots. Hikers should also bring a sack lunch, snacks for the trail, rain gear, compass, and sunscreen and a hat for sun protection (sunglasses optional).
Parents are welcome to join us on the hike.
Bring the signed permission slip to Monday’s meeting so that we know how many Scouts are participating in the hike.
We will meet at St. Juliana Church for 7:30 Mass, depart from there after Mass, and return before 5:00PM.
- Fall Court of Honor – Monday, October 21 – SAVE THE DATE!
We will be awarding the rank advancements and merit badges earned since spring. We’ll also review our latest outings, outline upcoming activities and update everyone on the state of the Troop. This is an important meeting and I urge parents to attend. Please show your support for your son in Boy Scouts!
- Playdium Swimming Opportunity – Fall Season Starts on October 15
Please check the Troop website (Resources page) for information about swim training and merit badges at the Playdium in Glenview. The Playdium is an excellent place to learn how to swim, become a stronger swimmer and earn Swimming and Lifesaving merit badges. The quality of instruction is top notch!
See you Monday!
