Hi everyone,
- Next Meeting – August 28 – 7-9 pm – Ahearn Center (Gym)
We had a great Troop meeting this week! Most of the guys worked on physical fitness requirements – including the mile run, sit-ups, and push-ups. Thanks to Mr. Gulliford and the older Scouts who helped make it happen.
After the fitness work, we moved on to floor hockey. The Scouts played a very energetic game that ended in a shoot-out to determine the winner.
We also had an update on the Troop trailer. With the work on the St. Juliana parking lot last week and the need to move the trailer out, we took the opportunity to move the trailer to Mr. Stolarski’s driveway so he could work on getting it whipped into shape. He was able to remove rust from the back of the trailer and the wheel rims and repaint everything. Troop alum and longtime leader Jim Biasi helped him with getting the external lights into working order and installing LEDs inside the trailer to help with loading and unloading at night. The trailer is in its best shape since we bought it! Thanks to Mr. Stolarski and Mr. Biasi!
At our next meeting, we will be having a CPR demo from Chris Z, and we will be preparing for the September 11 Court of Honor.
Class B uniforms AND a shirt or jersey from your FAVORITE COLLEGE!
- Upcoming Schedule
- No Meeting on Labor Day – September 4
Enjoy the last official weekend of summer!
- Night Hike and Trail Dinner – Friday, September 8 – Miami Woods
Join us for something a little different. We will be hiking at night in the forest preserves and enjoying a trail dinner along the way. The permission slip is in the Resource Center.
Hikers will need to bring:
The Troop will supply dinner and eating utensils. We will meet at the St. Juliana Parish Office at 6:00 PM. There is no charge for this outing, but we need to know how many are going to ensure we have the right amount of food. Please send me an email by Wednesday, September 6 at 6:00 pm if you are planning to go. No late sign-ups will be taken after that!
- Uniform Update
After Labor Day we transition back to Class A uniforms for most activities. As a reminder, the Class A uniform consists of the khaki shirt, Troop neckerchief, neckerchief slide, and for everyone below the rank of Star Scout – the Scout Handbook. If you can’t find your neckerchief or if your uniform shirt is still in the bottom of your pack from camp, it’s time to start looking for it now! The first meeting for Class A uniforms is the September 11 Court of Honor.
- Court of Honor – Monday, September 11 – Scouts at 7:00 - Parents at 7:30 pm – School Hall
Please plan to attend the Fall Court of Honor. The Scouts will be receiving recognition for rank advancement and merit badges they have earned since the spring. We will also see pictures of our latest activities, including summer camp, the Open House, and the Des Plaines River day trip.
It's very important that every Scout has a parent or family member on hand to see them be recognized for the work they did to advance in rank or complete a merit badge. It pains me to see a Scout receive an award and not have someone at his side to share the moment with him. I hope you will make plans to join us on the 11th.
- September Camping Weekend – September 29–October 1 – BSA Camp Betz
We will be camping with the Webelos Scouts of Pack 3965 at Camp Betz. We will be introducing the Webelos to Boy Scout camping and teaching them some outdoor skills – fire building, cooking, etc. The weekend will also provide opportunities for Boy Scouts to work on rank advancement.
The cost of the weekend is $25.00 per camper. The permission slip is in the Resource Center.
See you on Monday!
