Hi everyone,
- Next Troop Meeting – Monday, January 8 – 7:00-9:00 - Gym
We will be dismantling the Creche outside of the church, so dress for the weather and bring a pair of gloves to protect your hands. Hopefully there will be time for individual advancement and open gym (hoops and hockey).
Class B uniforms!
- 10-Mile Hike – Sunday, January 14 – Palos Trail System
Troop 965 will begin working on the Hiking Merit Badge and Fort Dearborn Trails Medal with a 10-mile hike on Sunday, January 14th. We will hike on the Palos Trail System and the I&M Canal Trail near Willow Springs, Illinois. The hike will begin at Pulaski Woods, and end at the I&M Trail parking lot at Willow Springs Road north of Archer Ave.
Using orienteering skills, the Scouts will direct us to specific sites including the site of the first Argonne National Lab, buried nuclear waste, Maple Lake, a haunted cemetery, and the Historic I&M Canal.
Each hiker must carry their own day pack, bring at least 3 liters of water to drink along the trail, and wear hiking boots – NO gym shoes! Hikers should also bring snacks for the trail, rain gear, compass, and dress appropriately in layers for the weather. A warm trail meal will be served mid-hike.
Parents are welcome to join us on the hike.
There is no cost for this trip. Bring the signed permission slip (in the Resource Center) to the January 8th Troop meeting so that we know how many Scouts plan to hike. We will meet at St. Juliana Church for 7:30 Mass, depart from there after Mass, and return before 5:00 PM.
- Eagle Scout Court of Honor – Sunday, February 4 – 3:00 pm – Mark Your Calendar!
Join us for one of the proudest moments in Scouting for the Scout and the Troop – the Eagle Court of Honor. We will be officially honoring our newest Eagle Scout – Luke Ramirez. More details will be available after the new year.
- Thank You for Your Service!
Thank you to everyone who has been coming out to help with our recent service projects – buckthorn cutting at Deer Gove Forest Preserve in November, painting and updating the church creche, setting up and dismantling the Living Nativity creche, and cleaning up after the animals at the Living Nativity. I’m proud of the service we give to our home parish and very grateful for the support they show to Boy Scouts.
- February Cabin Camping Weekend – February 23-25 – BSA Camp Topenebee
We are set for a winter cabin camping weekend at Camp Topenebee – near Michigan City. Mark your calendars. More information will be out after the holidays.
- Happy New Year to our Scouts, Leaders, supporters, and their families!
Let’s pray that 2024 is a year of peace and understanding in our city, country, and world. Let’s also pray that each of us does our part to contribute to peace and understanding in our family, at school, at work, and in our neighborhood.
Mr. Pelrine
Scoutmaster, Troop 965
