- Scouts should review First Class requirement 9a prior to the meeting. “9a – Visit and discuss with a selected individual approved by your leader (for example, an elected official, judge, attorney, civil servant, principal, or teacher) the constitutional rights and obligations of a U.S. citizen.
- Scouts should be ready to ask the mayor questions about governing the village of Niles.
- Everyone must wear their Class A uniforms and school pants – no sweats, shorts, etc! Let’s look good for this meeting!
- Please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can respect the mayor’s time and start promptly at 7:00.
Thank you to Ralph and Kelly Albanito for setting this up for us.
- Eagle Court of Honor Wrap-Up
Thanks to everyone who came out to congratulate Aiden and Colin on earning the rank of Eagle. Thanks also to everyone who helped organize the ceremony and reception. Special shout-outs to Jonah and Jimmy for serving as MCs and to Tom for leading the color guard. Everyone did a nice job!
The Troop also extends our gratitude to:
- Mrs. Lisa Ryan and Mrs. Ann Udell for organizing the reception.
- Mr. Jim Biasi for his financial support of the Eagle memorabilia that Aiden and Colin received.
- Mr. Ken Gehrling for designing the program booklet.
- Mr. Dan Pritt and Mr. Pat Aylward for their assistance in getting the Ahearn Center ready for the Court of Honor.
- Mr. Jimmy Connolly for issuing the Eagle Charge to our new Eagles.
- Rev. John Siemianowski for offering the Invocation and for his overall support of the Troop.
- Scout Sunday, February 19 – 9:30 Mass
We will be celebrating the 90th anniversary of Troop 965 being established at St. Juliana at this special Scout Mass. A reception in the Ahearn Center will follow Mass. Please plan to join us for this special occasion. There will be donuts...
Class A uniforms and school pants for this! Thanks.
- Cabin Camp-Out – February 24-26 – BSA Camp Betz – Berrien Springs, Michigan
This is our first cabin camp-out in three years because of Covid! It will be good to get out again in winter. Camp Betz is hilly, so hopefully there will be snow on the ground for sledding and fun in the snow. The cabin is very comfortable with heat and electricity. The permission slip (in the Resource Center) and payment are due at the February 20 Troop meeting.
- Vertical Endeavors Climbing Date Correction
The calendar I distributed at the Parent Meeting had a mistake. The correct date for the Vertical Endeavors outing is Saturday, March 11. My apologies for any confusion.
- Backpacking Weekend – April 28-30 – Ice Age Trail, Wisconsin
We have added an outdoor weekend at the end of April. We will be backpacking on the Ice Age Trail for a total of 11 miles over two days and sleeping in trail shelters at night. More information to come but mark your calendar for a great weekend that will both test your outdoor skills and be fun.
See you Monday!
Mr. Pelrine
Scoutmaster, Troop 965
