Hi everyone,
- Next Meeting – Monday, February 20 – School Hall - 7:00-8:00 PM
We will be focused on planning for the Camp Betz weekend – including making menus and shopping lists, and prepping patrol and Troop gear.
Class B uniforms IF you were at the meeting with Mayor Alpogianis this week or Scout Sunday.
- Scout Sunday, February 19 – 9:30 Mass
We’re hoping that as many of our members as possible are in attendance for this very special occasion. We will be celebrating Troop 965’s 90 years at St. Juliana at the 9:30 Scout Mass. A reception (with pastries!) for Troop alums, Scouts, parents, and leaders in the Ahearn Center will follow Mass. Please plan to join us for this special occasion.
Class A uniforms and school pants for this! Thanks.
Here is the patch that every Scout who attends will receive.

- Cabin Camp-Out – February 24-26 – BSA Camp Betz – Berrien Springs, Michigan
This is our first cabin camp-out in three years because of Covid! It will be good to get out again in winter. Camp Betz is hilly, so hopefully there will be snow on the ground for sledding and fun in the snow. The cabin is very comfortable with heat and electricity. The permission slip (in the Resource Center) and payment are due at the February 20 Troop meeting.
- Backpacking Weekend – April 28-30 – Ice Age Trail, Wisconsin
We have just added an outdoor weekend at the end of April. We will be backpacking on the Ice Age Trail for a total of 11 miles over two days and sleeping in trail shelters at night. More information to come but mark your calendar for a great weekend that is a fun test of your outdoor skills.
- Mammoth Cave National Park – June 19-23 – Sign-up starts March 6
Troop 965 is going to Mammoth Cave National Park in summer, 2023. The trip will be a five-day outing that includes tent camping in the national park, tours in Mammoth Cave, hiking the backcountry of the national park, and canoeing on the Green River.
Mammoth Cave National Park is rolling hills, deep river valleys, and the world's longest known cave system. Mammoth Cave National Park is home to thousands of years of human history and a rich diversity of plant and animal life, earning it the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve.
All members of the Troop are eligible for this trip if they have passed the BSA Swim Test. Scouts will have the opportunity to be tested on swimming well before the trip, so they have time to improve their swimming skills, if necessary.
We will be camping in a youth group campground within the national park.
The trip is scheduled for June 19-23, 2023, and the cost will be $400 per person.
Scouts, parents, and leaders who are interested in the trip should talk to Mr. Gulliford or Mr. Pelrine about their eligibility and any other details regarding the trip. Sign-ups will begin on March 6, 2023. A deposit of $200 will hold your space on the trip.
Leaders of the trip are trained in Wilderness First Aid, Hazardous Weather Training, and CPR/AED.
I hope to see all of you on Sunday for the 90th Anniversary celebration!
Mr. Pelrine
Scoutmaster, Troop 965
