May 29, 2023 Newsletter

5/27/2023

Hi everyone,

- No Meeting on Memorial Day - Next Meeting – June 5 – Ahearn Center (Gym) – 7:00-9:00 PM
Have a great weekend with family and friends!

Class B uniforms for everybody!

- Parish Picnic –Sunday, June 4 – Bunker Hill Grove 5
The Troop will be supporting the Parish Picnic by staffing a first aid station. We will be giving out mini first aid kits to promote the Troop. This is a service opportunity for guys who need hours for rank advancement. We need Scouts and Leaders to sign up for times to staff the first aid station. Please send me an email to let me know if you are planning to attend the picnic and if you are available to help with staffing the First Aid Station.

- New Troop T-Shirt
The new Troop T-shirt has arrived, and it looks great! The cost of the shirt is $8.00. We would like every Scout and Leader to have one, so if cost is an issue, please have a confidential conversation with Pete Stolarski. We can help anyone who is cash strapped.  We will be wearing the new shirts at the parish picnic on June 4th and the Car Wash on July 15th.

- Health Forms Due by June 12
Please remember that we must have new health forms for all Scouts and Leaders by June 12th. Submitting the forms allows one to continue participating in the program. Please let Pete Stolarski or me know if you have any questions.

- Memorial Day
I want to share a short excerpt from former President Obama’s 2016 Memorial Day speech at Arlington National Cemetery. As part of his speech, he said:

“Here, at Arlington, the deafening sounds of combat have given way to the silence of these sacred hills.  The chaos and confusion of battle has yielded to perfect, precise rows of peace.  The Americans who rest here and their families -- the best of us, those from whom we asked everything -- ask of us today only one thing in return: that we remember them.”

Please take a moment over the Memorial Day weekend to think about those who President Obama was talking about. Perhaps there are people in your family history who gave their lives for the United States. We are here and free because of the men and women who died to keep us a free nation. If nothing else this weekend, we should remember them and say a prayer of gratitude for the gift of their service.
