Hi everyone,
- Next Troop Meeting is Monday, October 10 - Ahearn Center – 7:00 PM
We worked on learning about lightweight stoves – when and why to use them and how to light them. We’ll use the training on the upcoming backpacking outing.
At our next meeting we will be working on prepping for the October 14 to 15 Backpacker. More about that below.
Class A uniforms for everyone - please!
- 24-Hour Backpacker – October 14-15 – Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Darien
We have added a 24-Hour Backpacker to the October schedule. The purpose of the Backpacker is to give the Scouts a taste of full-on backpacking. On Friday night we will hike about 5 miles to camp, cook a trail dinner, sleep out overnight, eat a quick breakfast in the morning and then hike back. It is a quick and fun way to get a night out on the trail and still be home by noon on Saturday morning.
On Friday, October 14, we will meet at 5:00 pm at the St. Juliana Parish Center to load up and go. Participants will carry personal and crew gear in a backpack. We will hike from the cars to the campsite in Waterfall Glen where we will set up camp for the night. Dinner will be a delicious backpacker’s meal!
Backpacking Personal Gear List:
This is intended to be an introduction to backpacking, so if you don’t have all the equipment – don’t worry! Contact Mr. Pelrine or Mr. Gulliford for assistance. Some equipment may be available to borrow.
The cost of the outing is $15.00 for each participant. Make checks payable to Troop 965. The permission slip can be found in the Resource Center. It must be returned with payment to the October 10 Troop meeting to confirm attendance. We need to make sure we have enough food.
- Haunted Hike – Friday, October 21 – Mark Your Calendar
We will be going on the Order of the Arrow Haunted Hike in October. Mark your calendar and watch for more details coming soon.
- Youth Protection Reminder
Scouts need to remember that your emails to leaders must be copied to a parent or another leader or both. It is very important to remember this for everyone’s protection. Please do not text leaders and leaders will not be texting you.
See you soon!
